Message A mechanical engineer/cycle analyst knows the otto and turbo cycles with intercoolers well. He'd know how to quantify the differences from a rough P-v or T-s diagram and be able to tell how much more efficient the TT is at making hp.

We're actually saying exactly the same thing, i.e. the NA can afford more cylinder compression because it uses less boost. This assumes they're using the same fuel of course.

Just keep in mind when comparing NA to TT that they're not the same engine cycle. The two designs are conspicuously optimized to provide the max hp (and fuel efficiency?) within their class and that's why they have the different compression ratios, slightly different heads, and I don't know what else. Do they have close to the same resultant compression? If so, the TT is all about getting more molecules in. If the NA resultant compression is slightly higher than the TT the answer isn't so clear cut.

Probably they're close because they use the same fuel = same detonation limit, therefore molecules win out.
